Karen Leeder

Karen Leeder is a writer, academic and translator who has translated several German poets into English including Volker Braun, Michael Krüger and Durs Grünbein (Grünbein also for Versopolis). She has twice won the Schlegel-Tieck prize and also the John Frederick Nims Memorial Prize in 2017. Her translation of Ulrike Almut Sandig’s Thick of it (Seagull, 2018) won a UK PEN award and a US PEN Heim award; and her translation of Sandig’s I am a field of rapeseed, give cover to deer and shine like thirteen oil paintings laid one on top of the other (Seagull Books, 2020) was longlisted for the ALTA Translation award and shortlisted for the Schlegel-Tieck Prize.
