Ilya Yablokov

Ilya Yablokov is Lecturer in journalism and digital media at the University of Sheffield. His research interests include conspiracy theories, nation-building and politics in post-Soviet Russia, history of post-Soviet journalism and international broadcasting. He received his PhD in Russian Studies from the University of  Manchester (UK). In 2015 he received the prize of the British Association of Slavonic and East European Studies for the best peer-reviewed article. His first book ‘Fortress Russia: Conspiracy theories in the post-Soviet space’ was published by Polity Press in 2017 and it’s Russian edition entitled ‘Russian conspiracy culture’ (Moscow: Alpina Non-Fiction, 2020) was long-listed as the best non-fiction book of the year. His latest book called“Russia Today and Conspiracy theories: People, Power and Politics on RT” (with Precious Chatterje-Doody) explores how the Russian major international broadcaster uses conspiracy theories as Russia's diplomatic tool. He currently works on the book about the history of Russian media elites (1987-2022). He tweets @ilya_yablokov
