Maciej Świerkocki

Translator, novelist, screenplay writer, literary critic, former academic teacher.  As a literary translator he has translated nearly 70 books from English into Polish, including several poems by W.B. Yeats.
An honorary member of the Polish Association of Literary Translators, member of the Polish Writers’ Association and the Polish Film Academy. First Polish judge on the judging panel of the Dublin IMPAC International Literary Award. 
In 2014 he was awarded by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage with a bronze medal “Gloria Artis” for his achievements as a translator and writer. In 2015 he was also honoured by the City Council and mayor of his home city with a medal “Za zasługi dla miasta Łodzi” (which is an order of merit). Also in 2015 he received one of the most important Polish literary awards for translators, awarded by the monthly Literatura na świecie (for the translation of T. Southern’s and M. Hoffenberg’s novel Candy). He is currently working among other things on the new Polish translation of James Joyce’s Ulysses (to be published in 2020).
