Hasmik Simonian

Hasmik Simonian (b. 1987, Yerevan, Armenia) is an Armenian poet(ess). She is the author of two poetry collections: Sleepwalking Words and Rooms in Disarray, both widely anthologized in Armenia and internationally.

 

Simonian is co-author of the ongoing non-fiction series Women That Changed the World, including 50 Women Who Changed the World, 50 LBTQ+ Women Who Changed the World, and 50 Disabled Women Who Changed the World.

 

Her literary achievements include numerous awards, among them the Armenian Presidential Youth Award in Literature, the Yerevan BookFest Poetry Prize, the "Be Heard" award from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and multiple laureateships in the annual "Gretert" and "Granish" literary awards across several categories. A member of the Writers Union of Armenia since 2007.


Simonian's poetry has been translated into fourteen languages: French, English, Russian, German, Ukrainian, Italian, Spanish, Persian, Turkish, Serbian, Georgian, Polish, Hindi, and Welsh. She has represented Armenia at literary festivals across Europe and Asia.

 

She is co-founder and chairwoman of the Text Platform Cultural-Educational NGO and editor-in-chief of Textplatform.org. Simonian founded and directs Kokordilos publishing house specializing exclusively in poetry.
