Dr Yury R. Zavadsky is a poet, translator, literary critic, performancer, noise artist, Ph.D. in Theory of Literature. Born in Ternopil, Ukraine in 1981. In 2006 completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature of the Faculty of Volodymyr Hnatiuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University. Worked as an assistant of Journalistic Department of the Philological Faculty of Volodymyr Hnatiuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University. Today is CEO of Publishing House “Krok”. Currently is an editor of scientific almanac “Studia methodologica”. Yury published 10 books of poetry and has a number of publications in Ukrainian and Polish periodicals. Author of one of the first hypertextual poems in Ukraine “Cyharky”. In 2010 Yury Zavadsky recorded the album with band “ZSUF” (electronica, experimental, psychedelic music) under title “zsuf yuryzavadsky” representing the first recorded Ukrainian project of such kind of music with sound poetry. Nowadays plays noise with band SUBPRODUKT. As translator and publisher, he works with authors from Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Fiji, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Russia, Belarus, Georgia. Yury translates contemporary Polish poetry.

Cold air tractors are plowing out my late findings,
capsules of irrationality and spider gods of hesitation.
I can’t breathe in enough, I’ve been waiting lastingly
as if to cease to exist for a long while.

I’m adding the penult warm days to my collection,
the days that keep rumbling on the horizon
while it’s easy to breathe and bitter to breathe.
I’ve collected too much soil in my pockets,
the soil that has blunted my eyes,
I’ve summoned too much of someone else’s air in my lungs.

I am the very reason that someone is too far away from me.
The clouds of dust are breaking from beneath the coarse wheels,
I hide my eyes and suddenly my boots are torn,
the soil goes underneath my nails, the blackest to not ever be scraped out.
Холодні повітряні трактори виорюють мої пізні знахідки,
капсули нераціональності та павучих богів нерішучості.
Я надихатися не можу, я так довго чекав,
що мене вже не стане надовго неначе.

До колекції додаю передостанні теплі дні,
що димлять і гуркочуть на обрії,
і легко мені дихати, і гірко мені дихати.
Назбирав у кишенях землі забагато,
що застувала мені очі,
забагато чужого повітря у легенях собі назбирав.

Це через мене самого хтось занадто далеко від мене.
З-під рапатих коліс вибиваються хмари пилюки,
очі ховаю, і раптом роздертими стають мої черевики,
і земля попід нігті, що чоренну не видлубаю вже ніколи.

For you to enjoy the progress around you
and to spend money on your amenities with no fear,

To share the blanket with your lover,

For you to look on the brows of strange girl
while she sleeps on the adjoining bed in stinky train
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to wait for your daughter nearby her school, and for her
to run to you with her thin legs while she’s pale of excitation
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to receive the unexpected letters
with presents and invitations, and for you to not to open them
and throw away them into the trash and continue the work,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to be able to think about lost, which is bigger than achieved,
because you had no brave to accept your timidity,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to stay silent and to be silently happy
that poets and actors blabla with you as with a friend,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to feel warmth of cold tomato juice,
which is dowsing the fire of cheap vodka with its stiffness,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
To let your drunk friend to burn out the hope in your elbow with a cigarette,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
To let you breath with a roar of old motocycles,
which are losing themselves slowly with every drop of oil on asphalt,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
To make your love more tender
and transparent sometimes because of joint efforts to get orgasm,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For killers facing your poems
to be like perplexes like children,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you not to be afraid to catch a look of stranger,
who warms with a palm his enlarged dick,
pretending that he hides himself behind the rusted traktor,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to be brave enough to use
the advantages of contemporary communications, because your impressibility
does not impress anybody,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to have a chance to survive thanks to the costs difference,
and enjoy every earned hryvna (Ukrainian currency),
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
To be successful in escape from the city which is based on the garbage and dog’s shit,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For your confidence could support somebody,
and your family to be closed as a seashell,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
For you to stay silent, when somebody kills you,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
Suddenly happiness is around us, and for you to be happy as others,
someone has to cut somebody’s throat.
And now for you to stay humbly in the village church,
gathering the coldness in your feet and the mildew in your lungs,

For your shirt well ironed in the morning,

For respect and politeness,

For the boiled chicken, parsley and thyme,

For rosary-tranquilizer,

Щоб друг твій, упившись, пропалив цигаркою дірку у твоєму лікті,

Аби ти міг дихати гуркотом старечих мотоциклів,
що гублять себе потроху з кожною краплею мастила на асфальті,

Щоб твоє кохання ставало ще ніжнішим
і навіть прозорим від спільних зусиль досягнути якогось орґазму,

I’m beside, I’m a huge face,

which teach nothing. Here’re communities,
which practice the opposition.
It’s just a city behind the glass,
frames of selfimmersed cars,
women come from job,
the store of mistakes shines,
the boots for others,
who are not going to recognize strange otherness
not tomorrow nor anytime.
That what I do today,
I have to do tomorrow. I feel myself as a big,
but I’m small and I’m today.
Малюю на брудному склі авта
свою лють.
Ось мій прикрий друг,
з яким не можу більш говорити.
І тут людина, слизька від нестриманості,
з якою не вітаюся. Тут очі вчительки,
яка нічого не вчить. Тут спільноти,
що практикуються в протистоянні.
За склом усього лиш місто,
корпуси самозаглиблених авт,
жінки повертаються з праці,
світиться магазин помилок,
черевики для інших,
що не збираються визнавати чужої інакшості

Те, що сьогодні роблю,

I’m such a female, who mixes anger with water,
digs touching from the soil, shout,
red lipstick of conversation,
empty can of memories.
Finally I will smell with self-confidence
and self-fullness,
which I will lose in the smile.
I came in like woman in the borders of powers of
my all-dependent body,
and I violently do not came away, I do not possess myself,
I hit the nail in skin.
Immutable, nervous cigarette, finally,
like I waited for the liberation so long.
And tickling in lungs.
And music with no gravity.

I say after mind lost
because of alcohol city.

Нарешті буду пахнути самопевністю

I think, my head aches,
I turn off the irritants,
and conversation can’t go on,
because nobody to talk with.
No monies remain,
I think it’s like my throat squeezes,
fish limbed,
its’ gray entrails are on the table.
Inside me I’m a little girl,
it’s not easy to notice the sex,
the food is disgusting and worded,
and the waves of writing are inane.
Temples need a massage,
to drink Apollinaire slowly,
like he’s cold and strong,
like words are inverted,
like you think in other way.
I could take a book –
nobody around.
Island is absolutely naked, no leaves,
island of black water,
island of dirty chairs,

подразники вимикаю,
і розмова не вдається,
бо ні з ким говорити.
Грошей не залишилося,
думаю, ніби горло стискається,

У собі я, всередині — дівчинка,

їжа огидна й ословлена,

Скроні треба розтирати,

I don’t know what happened.
Up, down, -
road through wet snow,

that my vagina is compressed,
like my teeth.
The speed has to work
for the success.
In this church with hanged bowels
the colorful icon with a crack on upper lip
little bit higher the doorway of sacristy.
and this church is
already dead teacher.
Я не знаю, що сталося.
Верх, низ, —
дорога крізь мокрий сніг,
що ночівлі не чекаю,
повернення туди ж,
у неокреслений олівцем
внутрішній запах,
у порожнину округлу,
що я в ній
тонконогою вчителькою,

Швидкість повинна

У цій церкві з провислими нутрощами

On the upper floor,
where I can’t talk,
I can’t drive out,
all ways are controlled,
and I can’t talk.
How to define
if I’m wanted by this system,
full of dead bodies, boiled, unhaired,
I come closer to the bodies with fear,
can hardly see myself
on the puddle of urine,
motionless.

На найвищому поверсі,
де говорити не можу,
виїхати не можу,
шляхи патрулюються,
і говорити не можу.
Як визначити,
чи потрібен я цій системі,
повній мерців, обварених, безволосих.
До тіл наближаюся боязко,

Surprising how my feelings depend on a blood pressure.
Electricity in my body prevents me from staying put.
And, still, I force myself not to move.

Fingers are nervously running across the keyboard.
Then the uneven verses turn into day dreams.

Your text messages follow me in my steps.
I do not wish to keep silent, but I have nothing to tell you.

The day is lost and no pill can bring it back.
Only an unpleasant fatigue left after the day is gone.

It seems to me I am happy

I мовчати не хочу, та й сказати тобi нема що.

День втрачено, і жодна таблетка не зможе його повернути.
Залишається після нього тільки неприємна втома.

The mist in the mountains is like something.
The rain is choking the sudden fire
that became a connection channel between us.
The smoke is pushing through the crowd,
screaming my name,
in a strange country.
I don't know this country, I don't know.

The time is approaching, his arm is broken,
he comes with cracks on his fingers,
like a phonetic process imposed by occupants.
I don't want to talk to you - I keep repeating,
I don't want to talk to you.

Within two hours of negligence
I paid with several thousand words.
The house blackened with time,
resembling a man with moss-like bristle.
Don't know if anything
is worth now.
У горах туман, як щось.
Дощ гасить раптовий вогонь,
що між нами став каналом зв’язку.
Дим пробивається крізь натовп,
викрикуючи моє ім’я,
в незнайомій країні.
Не знаю цієї країни, не знаю.

Наближається час, в нього зламана рука,
він приходить, і в нього тріщини на пальцях,
як фонетичний процес, насаджений окупацією.
Я не хочу з тобою говорити, повторюю,
я не хочу з тобою говорити.

За дві години з необережністю
заплатив кількома тисячами слів.
Хата зчорніла від часу,
як отой чоловік зі щетиною-мохом.
Не знаю, чи варто тепер
що-небудь.

які шукають у собі тишу.
Комунікація — небезпечна, комунікація —

небезпечна. Морока зі своїм тілом,
що суперечить началам реліґії.
Поїсти і надавати змісту
