Fahredin Shehu is a poet, writer, and essayist from Rahovec, Kosovo. For over thirty years, he has been an independent researcher in Oriental Studies, Spiritual Heritage, and Sacred Aesthetics. Passionate about calligraphy and painting, he has participated in numerous international literary festivals and conferences, including Voix de la Méditerranée (France), Struga Poetry Evenings (North Macedonia), Malta Literary Festival, Maelström Poetry Festival (Belgium), Vilenica (Slovenia), and others.
His poetry has been translated into more than 30 languages and featured in various international anthologies and literary magazines, such as The World Poets Yearbook (China), Poetas del Mundo (Chile), Tribune de Genève (Switzerland), and Ann Arbor Review (USA). He has published 20 books, including Ormus for the Soul (USA, 2021), When the Night Arrives (Serbia, 2020), Prayer’s Rug: Selected Poems (Kosovo, 2019), Balkans and Islam (UK, 2012), and the novel Mulberries (North Macedonia, 2012).
Shehu has received numerous literary honors, including the Gold Medal for Poetry as a Bridge to Nations (Philippines, 2014), the Naji Naaman Literary Prize (Lebanon, 2016), and the Veilero Prize for Poetry (Italy, 2017). He was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize (USA, 2017) and awarded the United Nations Asian Federation of Arts and Literary Circles Prize (China, 2020).
He is the director and organizer of the International Poetry Festival Poetry and Wine in Kosovo, founder of the Fund for Education and Cultural Heritage, and serves as the director of the Balkan Literature sector at the Kosovo PEN Center. A member of the World Writers Association and the World Poetry Movement, he has also received the Presidential and Academic Medal and the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa from Universum Academy Lugano, Switzerland.
