Circe of the Adriatic is a short poetry film based on the book Circe of the Adriatic by poet and musician Andraž Polič. Directed by Žiga Stanovnik, the film is a poetic voyage through time and space, reflecting on the Adriatic Sea from Trieste to Savudrija as part of a larger poetic film trilogy.
Polič and Stanovnik have collaborated on long and short films since the Anamnesis project in 1998. Following the publication of Circe of the Adriatic, they invited actor Primož Pirnat to interpret the poems, accompanied by Andraž's soundtrack and Žiga's evocative imagery.
The film blends history, childhood memories, and poetic imagery, creating a dreamlike journey filled with vivid energy and self-exploration—an odyssey of personal and existential reflection. Through poetic cinema, Circe of the Adriatic invites us to rediscover human identity and engage with the spiritus loci, the essence of places that shape our memory and experience.

Andraž Polič ( Slovenia ),1972: poet, musician, composer, actor. He published 16 books of poetry…Voda puščave ( Voda pouště; 2012 ) is published in Czech. Last published poetry book is “Prelomi” (2023). As a composer he composed music for theater in Ljubljana, Cologne, Prague, N.Y.C.... He is the author of a “fusion chancon” band “Hamlet express” and “Du-Chanson" ( Prague ). After 17 years in Prague he moved to Ljubljana where he lives and works and relaxes on the Adriatic islands.
