What began as two childhood best friends who connected over a shared love of pickup basketball and travel, has evolved into two career touring artists, poet Carlos Andrés Gómez and musician/producer Brent Shuttleworth, collaborating with artists across the globe. From their first cultural exchanges and collaborations in South Africa, Canada, and the Cayman Islands in the early 2000s to their ascent on the global music scene as groundbreaking collaborators nearly two decades later, Brent and Carlos have continued to find ways to use their art as a catalyst for connection across cultural and creative boundaries. Emerging out of the unprecedented loss and alienation of the global pandemic, Artists Across Borders seeks to reconnect us to ourselves and each other.

Carlos Andrés Gómez is a Colombian American poet from New York City who has performed at more than 1,500 colleges, universities, schools, and festivals in 28 countries across six continents. A two-time International Poetry Slam Champion, his poetry collection "Fractures" (University of Wisconsin Press, 2020) was selected by Pulitzer Prize winner and 19th U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey as the winner of the 2020 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry. Winner of the Foreword INDIES Gold Medal and the International Book Award, Gómez has been published in The Nation, New England Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, The Yale Review, BuzzFeed Reader, "Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World" (W.W. Norton & Co., 2022), and elsewhere. A star of HBO’s "Def Poetry Jam" and the Spike Lee movie "Inside Man" with Denzel Washington, Carlos is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
