Dione Cavadias’ project is a digital poem born from two years of studying in Seoul while continuously writing about the sea—an inevitable longing for a Greek abroad.
What began as a diary entry, written in the hollow of a tree amidst the already-occupied benches of Seoul Forest, has transformed into a visual montage. The piece blends scenes from Greece and Korea within the silhouettes of a café, where memories of both places drift around the subject like falling leaves—windows into thought. As the narrator reminisces about home and the sea that raised them, they remain captivated by the fleeting beauty of springtime in Seoul.
While the video evokes a sense of warmth, it also serves as a reflection on cultural coexistence. Identity is not singular; rather, it absorbs and transforms, much like soil slowly soaking in the waters of an expansive sky. The project highlights the ways in which cultures intertwine within individuals—how one can wear Greece on their sleeves while sipping Seoul from a cup.
The project is part of the subthemes Re-imagining identity through poetry, Poetry and the Digital Commons - New platforms, new audiences.
