Nothing

Poetry Expo 25

"Nothing" explores the human need for roots and connection, as well as the ways natural and urban transformations influence our collective identity. It invites audiences to reevaluate the concept of loss—not only on a personal level but also in relation to the environment. It is a multimedia project that merges poetry, photography, and digital storytelling to explore themes of memory, loss, and the ever-changing relationship between humanity and nature. Inspired by the poem of the same name, the project captures the essence of urban transformation and its emotional resonance through a minimalist yet deeply evocative artistic approach.

At the heart of the project is a video that blends visual and textual elements. The foundation of the video is a single, striking photograph taken by the artist—a tree captured in a moment of stillness, its presence symbolic of resilience, memory, and absence. Over this image, the poem "Nothing" unfolds line by line, written in delicate, animated text that mirrors the rhythm and tone of the verses.

The photograph acts as both a canvas and a narrative anchor. Its simplicity highlights the raw power of the written word, while its layered composition offers subtle cues about the themes of the poem: the disappearance of nature, the void left behind, and the quiet yearning for what has been lost, while a minimalist audio backdrop emphasizes the connection between memory, place, and emotion. The absence of narration allows viewers to engage with the poem visually and emotionally, fostering a meditative and personal encounter with the work.

The project is part of the subtheme Re-imagining identity through poetry, The Ecology of Language - Poetry and Environmental Action.
