The poetics of Zhao Si, to say it with a Cervantine expression, “suspends and marvels” with surprising twists and contrasts. It takes us from the minimum to the immense and unreasonable, in a rising and falling environment that prodigy weaves micro and macrocosms together. Her metaphysical poetry touches the intangible, guess the inefable, with the tools of brilliant sensory. The mythical and philosophical traditions of the East and West converge in their rare breadth. Archaic and immemorial is embedded in the present, opening a horizon of continuous metamorphosis, so that the most current figures and problems of science and technique dialogue. The dazzling shaking of origins (Nascita di Venere) and the fear of inevitable end (That line) are cited in hilarious verses where images are chained into unexpected transfigurations. So, in her “memory orchard,” we attended the revelation of “a dream of fire locked in the deep rocks,” which will continue to envelop us in its magical resonances.

In each of these poems, beneath the appearance at times of a fairy tale and at others beneath the bloom of spring, or in the insignificant, the tiny, one can perceive the void, the mystery, the great questions of being faced with history and its burdens, but also before the unfathomable beauty of the universe. There is also the spirit that tirelessly seeks the path towards harmony. The diminutive linked to the grand, always in the process of transformation, thanks to the theurgic powers of poetry that speaks from the past and projects towards the infinite on the same wave of time…

Zhao Si depicts a dense and complex universe that constructs itself from an aporetic logic, seeking in the clash of opposites new ways to read and understand the world. Such is the strength of this poetry whose lyricism offers us a current perspective, that of a woman capable of questioning the world with the knowledge of her time while drawing from the immense reservoir of human culture. This work is one of memory and anticipation, of reading and imagination, open to the world, turning both to the immense and the minute, but above all, attentive to the human being, their desires, fears, and thirst for peace and salvation.
