Odes From The Fire

Poetry Expo 25

This project is an eclectic collection of verse that seeks to use language as a powerful tool to evoke emotion, create vivid imagery of beauty, reality, and dreams, and inspire a sense of belonging, wonder, and fulfillment in the reader.

Much of the inspiration stems from the poet's formative years in South Africa, listening to the stories of forebears—indentured laborers from India—who spoke of their deep love and longing for their motherland.

A standout piece, "An Ode to the Diaspora," serves as a tribute to enslaved people across the world, honoring their resilience, struggles, and enduring spirit.

The project is part of the subthemes Healing Narratives - Poetry, Mental Health and Collective Trauma, Cultural Resilience - Literature as a force for social justice.
