About Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival

The Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival is an established annual international literary festival organized by the voluntary cultural organization Inizjamed in collaboration with the European network Literature Across Frontiers and other national and international partners including Arts Council Malta, Heritage Malta, and the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The first edition was held in 2006. The weeklong Malta LAF Literary Translation Workshop is an integral part of the Festival.

The Festival brings together active writers and literary translators from Malta, the Mediterranean and beyond, to showcase contemporary writing and thinking, promote interaction across languages, geographies and artistic genres, and to discuss some of the major issues of our time.

By fostering collaboration within specific programmes and across artistic genres through an annual literary festival, a literary translation workshop and other pre-festival events, the Festival Mediterranju tal-Letteratura ta’ Malta aims to consolidate the place of Maltese literature in its simultaneously  global and Mediterranean context.

Inizjamed

Inizjamed is a voluntary non-governmental cultural organisation founded in 1998 in Malta that is committed towards the regeneration of culture and artistic expression in the Maltese Islands and actively promotes a greater awareness of the cultures of the Mediterranean. Inizjamed is a secular, non- partisan organisation that acknowledges that every generation must seek to create its own language and both respond to realities of its day and look beyond them. Inizjamed believes that cooperation and partnership are far more effective in the long-term than competition. Its flagship is the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival.
