world i used to know

Poetry

gravel on our rings

Maybe it was the thrill of the chase, your out-of-reachness
Your golden hair, and how you used to wear your cashmere dress
Maybe it was that you were the one in a million, possibly even more
While I was just another in a million, knocking and waiting at the door

Maybe we think that what we do not have is what is precious
We’re chasing the unknown, hoping it holds the answer, ‘cause
If there were diamonds under our feet and buried in the springs
We would have granite on our minds, we would wear gravel on our rings

world i used to know

I would rather have pen ink on my fingers than cherry lipstick on my cheek
I would rather dive into unrehearsed sadness
Than fake generic smiles and lifeless laughs;
I would rather look for different ways of asking the question
Than pondering over the same one word answer;
I would rather notice engagement rings only in the windows of expensive shops
Than see them on my friends’ middle fingers more and more often;
I would rather enjoy an impromptu hug than question its motives
And see my friends without having to plan a gathering a year prior;
I would rather be closer to the grass that gave me life
Than to the sky I’ll never reach;
I would rather go back, grow down and hear that version of myself
Trying to warn me
Stai, nu pleca! It’s not the end of the world
Before I left behind the world I used to lov

Author

Robert Boeru

Robert Boeru was attracted to literature before he was born, when his mother used to read stories and poems to him. After a while, he moved on to the other side of the book, writing about his existence with a painful honesty. Trying to always keep the sun in the corner of the drawing, but also adding darker shades to it whenever it’s necessary, Robert is constantly exploring himself and the world around him through his writing.
