late summer freedoms

by Kristina Kočan

late summer freedoms

on an august evening children
cheer screech somewhere
far off on a meadow
play hide and seek in
the labyrinth of
a corn field storks
flying overhead
silently leaving them
there is always one child
who hides deeper in the corn
forgetting about the game
for a few moments
taking in the scent
of the late summer freedom of the
heat dissipating from the skin
on the legs in shorts
as the game draws to a close
all the children have been found this child
looks at the ancient loss
that will last for at least a year
quickly digging in
carrying the warm dry
soil to the face
smelling it with the nose and
open mouth

poznopoletne prostosti

v avgustovskem večeru otroci
vzklikajo vreščijo nekje
daleč na travniku
se v labirintu
koruznega polja
igrajo skrivalnice štorklje
jih v visokem preletu
tiho zapuščajo
en otrok je vedno tisti
ki se med koruzo pritaji
pozabi na igro
za par trenutkov
vsrka vase vonj
poznopoletne prostosti puhteče
toplote na koži
nog v kratkih hlačah
ko se igra bliža h koncu
so vsi otroci najdeni ta otrok
pogleda za starodavno izgubo
ki bo trajala vsaj leto
na hitro zagrebe
toplo suho zemljo
nese k obrazu
povonja jo z nosom in
odprtimi usti
