The Student Cultural and Artistic Association (SCAA) "Ivan Goran Kovačić"

The Student Cultural and Artistic Association (SCAA) "Ivan Goran Kovačić", established in 1948 under the auspices of the University of Zagreb, has been continuously functioning for the past 65 years as a unifying force of many generations of art enthusiasts.

2013 is a big year for the SCAA "Ivan Goran Kovačić". It is special because this is the year which marks four great anniversaries: the 65th anniversary of the Association, the 50th Goran’s Spring, the 100th anniversary of the birth and the 70th anniversary of the death of Ivana Goran Kovačić, whose name the Association carries.

The generations of Goran members (also called Goranovci), their love, warmth and continuous work and effort can be credited for affirming the identity of the "Goran's" family in the vast field of Croatian culture. It is due to the work of its members during the last 65 years that "Goran" has become what it is today and upon which it can pride itself. It became one of the pillars of the society in its whole, a second home and family for over its 5000 members, and today, it is the pinnacle of amateur-cultural and artistic creativity in Croatia and beyond. The name Goranovci has become an inseparable part of Zagreb’s identity, and of Zagreb’s Opatovina in particular. Nowadays, one can hardly find a resident of Zagreb who is not familiar with "Goranovci from Opatovina".

Today’s generation of Goranovci is actively participating in one of the following sections: the Academic choir, the Collegiate Accordion Orchestra, the Folk ensemble, the International folk ensemble, the Male vocal ensemble and the Student theatre, while the Association is also the founding body and organizer of the literary manifestation Goran’s Spring.
