Literatur & Wein festival begins in Krems

From April 6 to April 9 the international cultural festival „Literatur & Wein“ will take place for the 19-th time. This year the festival may be put under the topic „In Quest of Happiness“. Happiness is such a fragile matter and its individual definition is very diverse – in times like these, to be lucky might mean to have a mere shelter and enough to eat.

The festival will start on Thursday, April 6 at Literaturhaus NÖ in Krems with two prominent writers of modern literature. John Burnside will be searching for „normality“ in his novel „Waking up in Toytown“, whereas Tim Parks is telling „A Love Story“ in his latest novel „Thomas and Mary“.

How diverse the search for happiness might be the writers of the Friday night program at monastery Göttweig will reveal – Anna Weidenholzer, Peter Henisch, Anna Mitgutsch, Katja Lange-Müller and Michael Fehr.

Saturday morning and afternoon the audience might feel happy to choose between different literary options:

At 10.30 a.m. at Salzstadl tavern five VERSOPOLIS poets (Kayombo Chingonyi / United Kingdom, Valentina Colonna / Italy, Rolf Hermann / Switzerland, Stanka Hrastelj / Slovenia and Indre Valantinaite / Lithuania) plus special guest Fiston Mwanza Mujila (Democratic Republic of Kongo) will spread a little happiness not only for poetry aficionados.

At the same time mathematician Rudolf Taschner and writer John Wray will be reading and discussing on the topic „About the magic of world and time and other peculiarities“ at Literaturhaus NÖ.

At 1.30 p.m. another poetry session will take place at Salzstadl tavern with readings of John Burnside, Michael Krüger, Andrea Grill and Anja Utler. At the same „Literatur & Walking“ will render special moments of happiness to those feeling blessed in pure nature.

How rapidly fortune may turn into misfortune will be demonstrated on Saturday evening, again at monastery Göttweig, when Sabine Gruber, Jonas Lüscher and Michael Krüger will read from their latest books. Further on stage will be John Wray and Reinhard P. Gruber.

The final „moments of happiness“ will be delivered on Sunday morning at 11.30 a.m., when Antonio Fian and Christoph Mauz will commemorate two late Austrian writers – Otto Grünmandl and Ernst Jandl.

Not only literature, but also music (Alma / Friday evening, Tsatsiki Connection / Saturday evening and klezmer reloaded / Sunday morning) and excellent wines and exquisite sparkling wines – offered by regional wine store Ursin Haus Langenlois (www.ursinhaus.at) – will contribute to a festival of happiness and wellness.
