Lithuanians were celebrating World Poetry Day

The exhibition containing photographs of modern Lithuanian poets titled POETŲ PORTRETAI (Portraits of Poets) by Dainius Dirgėla was opened in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, in order to mark World Poetry Day where photographs of VERSOPOLIS poets are also present.

As March the 21st was announced by UNESCO as World Poetry Day in 2000, the first Poetry Day was celebrated in Paris, the headquarters of UNESCO. 

In 21 March 2017, the Lithuanian National Gallery of the UNESCO Commission in Vilnius invited us to celebrate the World Poetry Day by opening the exhibition titled POETŲ PORTRETAI (Portraits of Poets) by poet and photograph Dainius Dirgėla containing photographs of modern Lithuanian poets.

16 black and white photographs were presented during the exhibition where modern Lithuanian poets are captured. 
As many as 8 Lithuanian poets participating in the VERSOPOLIS European poetry platform are among them, namely Mindaugas Nastaravičius, Donatas Petrošius, Indrė Valantinaitė, Marius Burokas, Gytis Norvilas, Vytautas Stankus, Giedrė Kazlauskaitė and Aivaras Veiknys.
During the opening of the exhibition, a collection of postcards containing portraits of Lithuanian VERSOPOLIS poets and their poems in Lithuanian and in English was also presented.

During the opening of the exhibition, 3 Lithuanian VERSOPOLIS poets, namely Indrė Valantinaitė, Marius Burokas, and Giedrė Kazlauskaitė, participated and read their poems. Poems by other Versopolis poets were red by their colleagues. Meanwhile, Lithuanian poet Aivaras Veiknys was celebrating World Poetry Day in a VERSOPOLIS poetry festival Goran’s Spring (Croatia).

Exhibition of photographs of modern Lithuanian poets titled POETŲ PORTRETAI (Portraits of Poets). At the Gallery of he Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, šv. Jono g. 11, working until 31 March 2017. Gallery’s working hours: I–IV 8 AM–5 PM, V 8 AM– 4 PM.

After the exhibition participants went to Writers Union where a book on poet Kornelijus Platelis, the organizer of the Festival “Druskininkai Poetic Fall“ by literature critic Algis Kalėda were presented.
