Versopolis at the Frankfurt Book Fair

On the 20th of October at 20.00 Versopolis Platform and European Review of Poetry, Books and Culture will be presented at the amazing Chapel in Römer in the frame of Frankfurt Book Fair.

The evening will entail a poetry reading, a talk and a tost with 4 Versopolis poets: Marius Burokas (LT), Aurélia Lassaque (FR), Els Moors (BE) and José F. A. Oliver (DE). The host of the evening will be Aleš Šteger from the Slovenian publishing company Beletrina, also the initiator of the Versopolis project.

Aurélia Lassaque is a bilingual poet in French and Occitan. Interested in the interaction between various forms of art, she often cooperates with visual artists, videomakers, dancers and particularly musicians.

Marius Burokas is an awarded poet and a translator. He made his debut with the poetry collection Ideograms (Ideogramos) in 1999. His second book of poetry, States of Being (Būsenos), appeared in 2005. His third book – I‘ve Learned Not To Be (Išmokau nebūti) was published in 2011. His third book was awarded “The Young Yotvingian prize” as a best young poet’s book, published in two years. This book was also awarded Antanas Miškinis literary prize.

Els Moors is a Flemish poet and novelist. Her debut Er hangt een hoge lucht boven ons (There is a tall sky above us; 2006) was nominated for the C. Buddingh’-prize and was awarded the prestigious Herman de Coninck prize for best poetry debut. Her second collection of poetry, Liederen van een kapseizend paard (Songs of a capsizing horse), was published in 2013 and won the J.C. Bloem price.

José F. A. Oliver writes poetry and prose, usually on political or socially charged topics. He is the recipient of many international literary scholarships and awards. He lives in Hausach, where he also coordinates the Poetry festival, a member of the Versopolis network.
