Janko Kráľ - 140th Anniversary of His Death

Today we commemorate the 140th anniversary of the death of the Slovak poet rebel and revolutionary, Janko Kráľ (April 24, 1822 – May 23, 1876) whose ballads, epics, and lyrics are among the most original products of Slavic Romanticism. He was also among the first poets to start writing in the modern Slovak language standard freshly codified by Ľudovít Štúr and his companions.
