Versopolis in Struga

The young poets of Versopolis offered an extraordinary poetic evening for the international audience of SPE festival

The diversity of the European poetry of the young poets of the “Versopolis” platform amazed the international audience which attended the poetry reading at the “Galeb” lakeshore in Struga, at the 54th Struga Poetry Evenings.

On a platform on the rivers of the Ohrid lake, near the flow out of the CrnDrimriver, with beautiful visual effects, the English translations were simultaneously projected and the poems were afterwards read in Macedonian by famous Macedonian actors, who have been collaborating with the festival for a long time. The young European authors offered an extraordinary evening at the beach full of people enamored of poetry.

In poetic Struga, the foreign authors Linn Hansѐn, Tom van de Voorde, Sigurbjörg Þrastardóttir, Sophie Reyer, Kristina Hočevar, Martin Solotruk and the domestic authors Vladimir Martinovski and Nikolina Andova read some of their poetry.

The European platform “Versopolis” through the selection of 13 poetry festivals focuses on already established poets who are renowned for their poetic gift and characteristic creative approach.

The international audience had the opportunity to get a deeper insight in the poetry of Paula Bozalongo, this year’s recipient of the “Bridges of Struga” award for best debut book of poetry, awarded since 2003 by the Struga Poetry Evenings and UNESCO.

On the third day of the SPE festival, the poetic portraits of the famous poets JusefKomunyakaa, SujataBhat and GhassanZaqtan were promoted, and the audience was honoured with poetry reading by the famous Macedonian poets, KaticaKulavkova, SandeStojcevski and BrankoCvetkovski.

The director of the Festival of Poetic Films“Zebra” from Germany, Mr. Tomas Wohlfahrt, had a lecture as part from the SPE programme.
