The well-known international writer Lily Brett will be the opening guest of the 2015 “Literatur & Wein” festival, which will take part from April 9 to April 12.

Lily Brett (www.lilybrett.com) lives and writes in New York City. She is a novelist, essayist, and poet. Her work frequently explores the lives of Holocaust survivors and their children, the experiences of modern women, women’s relationship with food, and life in New York City.

At the festival she will read from her latest books, “Immer noch New York” (Only in New York), a collection of essays and “Wenn wir bleiben könnten” (If we could stay), selected poems in English and German.

The book starts with a very moving poem titled ‘The Arrival

I was born

into

a disordered kingdom

a

cracked galaxy

there was so much screaming

there was so much weeping

there was so much grieving.

After the bilingual reading (Sylvia Treudl from Literaturhaus NÖ will read the German translation) Lily Brett will be talking with journalist Dagmar Kaindl (from NEWS-magazine) about her extraordinary life and work. Lily Brett started her career as a journalist herself and interviewed a lot of musicians, among them legends like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison.

The reading of Lily Brett will take place on Thursday, April 9th 2015 at 8 p.m. at Literaturhaus NÖ (www.ulnoe.at).
